I’m a mom from Minnesota with three kids, a fulltime job, and more important things to worry about than head lice. I started LiceToKnow.org after lice got the best of my family.

When my community experienced a lice outbreak, I became astounded by the difficulty—and expense—of finding effective, research-backed treatment. Misinformation and a culture of silence only fueled lice’s spread, and my kids’ school refused to notify parents of lice in the classroom. As the outbreak persisted, I kept thinking, “Beating lice may not be easy, but it shouldn’t be this hard.”

After pushing for change in my community—around how we talked about lice, notified each other, and partnered with the schools—parents from other communities reached out and asked how they could to the same. These parents shared familiar stories of endless battles with lice, and unanswered demands of schools to mitigate the spread. We shared the belief that information is powerful and that lice—like most dangers—thrive on silence.

LiceToKnow.org was born from a commitment to share the following with parents everywhere:

  1. An anonymous notification tool

  2. Hard-won learnings for creating change within a school district

  3. Treatment and prevention steps that are practical, safe, affordable, and backed by research

  4. Reassurance that you are not alone. From one frazzled parent to another - you’ve got this.
